[barRi]cycle focuses on the city of Barcelona and investigates on one hand the allocation and scale of a neighbourhood scale recycling infrastructure, and on the other simulates the impacts of the proposed solutions in terms of environment, economic, and social consequence. This strategic tool uses an optimization algorithm by overlapping the parametrized available spaces within the neighbourhoods’ buildings and blocks and the recycling solutions’ components to generate the least impactful infrastructure design for each of the municipal solid waste recycling solutions. The recycling systems are catalogued in size according to the amount of waste generated by the neighbourhood and in different possible configurations according to the availability of spaces to intervene.
